BAM Construction

Since 1874 BAM Construction Ltd has been building in the UK for a variety of sectors including education, culture and hospitality. The company operates in construction, property and civil engineering sectors to name a few. With around 28,000 employees, BAM is responsible for the implementation of thousands of projects every year, and is currently undertaking projects in more than 30 countries around the world.

The Project – Acland Project – Keble College Oxford

The construction of a new building around a “quad” providing 250 bed student accommodations. The new building has a basement, lower ground floor and first to third floor with a total gross floor area of approximately 11,280m². Acland house, a grade II listed building is to be retained and incorporated into the new build. The existing site was formally the Acland hospital and was used by Keble College for student accommodation.

The residential accommodation will be supported by various facilities including seminar / teaching spaces, common rooms, café and basement research lab and storage.

A separate Advanced studies centre (Woodstock Road House) will be constructed on the north west side of the site but linked to the main building. This will serve as an office / research building with meeting and conference rooms and library. The building will have a lower ground, ground, first and second floors with a total gross floor area of approximately 950m².

External works include a central landscaped quad incorporating a water feature, landscaping to the boundaries of the site and a northern vehicular and pedestrian road with car parking.

Why did BAM Construction use time lapse?

We spoke with Alec Carr, Project Manager at BAM Construction.

“We decided to use time lapse video/ camera as it provides a good record of site progress and the activities on site. Also, the access to the time lapse camera and video has been given to the client (Keble College) who uses the photos and video to update staff and students on progress. We use the monthly video to update members of the public on progress through various mediums such as Facebook.”
